Us: Volume IX -Portals celebrated the new release Saturday,
December 5th at the Discovery Museum inside the Carnegie Center -Downtown

celebration.
We congratulate all of those who have contributed to The
Talent Among Us IX Short Story and Poetry Contest. The Talent Among Us
began in 2000 and has proven to be a great success. The quality of the
entries are so good that it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to select
winners. Thanks to everyone who contributed for sharing your wonderful
thoughts with the rest of us. We hope that you will continue to nurture
your creativity and provide the rest of us an opportunity to see your work.

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE
MONTH
FRANCISCUS POPPELAARS,
Founder and Director of the American Art Academy
Franciscus is a
Dutch native who has worked and lived in several countries
before locating to the Jackson area where he has lived and
taught art for one year. Franciscus has a European
Masters of Fine Arts degree along with many honors and
awards. Among these are Gand Belgium Award of Fine
Arts -Belgium and Nordrhein Westfalen Jury Award -Germany.
Franciscus volunteers his time to
teach two weekly art classes at the Jackson-Madison Country
Library and several local churches. Both of these
classes are free of charge. Additionally, Franciscus
is currently involved with ABG (A Better Generation).
This program was started by several Jackson residents who
are involved in improving the quality of life of those
children who live in the Lincoln Courts-Roosevelt Parkway
area. Fransiscus refers to this project as "Operation:
Moon Dog - On a Mission in Lincoln Courts." You can
